Dozens of archaeological digs in the 19th-century Chinatowns of the American West are revealing new insights into the immigrant experience. I spoke with dozens of archaeologists to put together this overview of this emerging sub-field of historical archaeology, which includes sections on labor, health, food, women, and culture.
